Basics
Where she comes from: Original Character
Birthday: November 24th
Age: 17
Species: Human, supposedly cursed, with a strange ability
Sexual Orientation: None at the moment.
Occupation: Outcast, Prisoner
Reputation: In her own world, Morana is perceived as a monster, cursed child, unblessed, a jinx and a bad omen. She is seen as a being that can only cause disaster and pain, and therefore, is widely avoided by everyone. Just before arriving in Chaos Unraveled, she was also perceived to be a killer, responsible for the death of a young child.
In Chaos Unraveled however, things are quite different. She is seen as a shy and somewhat lonely individual who is not used to people talking to her, due to her stuttering voice and awkward fidgeting. However, she is also seen as a kind, gentle and sweet natured girl who wants to do her best, though she can be confused in interactions with others, somewhat naive, and seems rather skittish. With time however, she will come out her shell, and be worth knowing.
Her World
History and Legend
The Lykke Clan
On a small offshore island in a large sea, there exists a collected tribal group called the Lykke Clan. They survive through harvest and labour, keeping themselves alive through hunting and growing food for the collected number of roughly one hundred people. Most go through their daily business without fail to survive, while the elder priests are there to give guidance and law to all other clan members.
Spiritually, the Lykke Clan worship deities of the sun, and look to them for blessing. They believed that as long as the sun ruled over the sky, they would be safe and protected, and live prosperous lives. They believed themselves to be the chosen people of the deities, given the name of Lykke, meaning good fortune. By giving daily offerings of livestock and valuables on the holy altar ruins in the middle of the island, the deities saw them in good stead, and they would be protected. It was also believed that children had to be born during the day, before sunset, in order to be blessed by the deities and live long and happy lives filled with joy and wealth.
The Darkest Day, Her Curse
On day, almost eighteen years in the past, there occurred the most dreaded day in the Lykke Clan's history. They had heard of myth and legend of it from their ancestors, but no one had predicted it would return.
The Darkest Day; a Solar Eclipse.
In the Lykke Clan's beliefs, blocking out the sun meant there was no connection to the beloved deities they worshipped, meaning they were vulnerable to the evil forces of the world without the sunlight's protection. They were thrown into panic that the world might be coming to an end, and everything descended into utter madness. Eventually, things calmed down once the moon moved in rotation. The sun could be seen once more, and everyone thought the worst was over...but they were mistaken.
Suddenly a young midwife came running through the village towards the elders screaming and shouting in panic. None could understand what she was trying to say, all they could come to grips with was that there was a monster among them. Quickly, she lead them along and into one of the maternity huts. Inside, expectant mother's lay on small beds, where they were attended by tribal medicine women. Usually, over each bed there was opening in the ceiling where the rays of the sun could pore down, so the child would be bathed in light once it was born, blessed to live a good and long life. Unfortunately, this had not been so for one baby.
The newborn, a baby girl was lying at the end of the bed, crying loudly to be picked up, but no one dared. The nurses were shrinking away in horror. The mother was curled up at the head of the bed, as if trying to be as far away from the infant possible. The father held his wife with one arm, the other extended with a bloody hunting knife in his hand. He had cut the umbilical cord messily, but he wanted to separate his wife from the baby as quickly as possible, as if protecting her from some horrible evil force.
This child could only be a few minutes old. That was enough to make everyone realize what had happened. The people were terrified to think of it ever happening, but it had. Since they had not known about the eclipse, the woman was already giving birth when it began. She obviously had tried to hold the child in until the blessed sun returned to the sky, but to avail.
This baby was born in the darkness, it was not blessed by the deities. There was no doubt in any of clans mind that child was contaminated by the dark forces that must have arose during the eclipse. That's why no disaster had come; all the wickedness had been contained within this unholy infant.
The priests retreated to the temple soon after the news spread to decide what to do. Killing the child was an option, but it would most likely make the killers, and cause the deities to be angry at them. They could not afford to lose the blessed protection. Instead, they came up with the option of keeping the infant away from the rest of the Clan, lest they be infected by her evil aura. She was left to live alone in a cave in the forest, where she would dwell for all her life till her death, which in the case of many of the Clan, they prayed would come soon.
Magic
While the Clan are not a supernatural one, they do believe that such things as magic can exist, but only in good form of their beloved deities. Things such a Morana's powers are unheard of to them, and in consequence, due to the bad timing they displayed themselves and Morana not being favoured well already, they were considered very dark and unnatural, most likely a soruce of the dark evils of the world that the sun deities would normally protect people against. Being born on the Dark Day of course, meant she was contaminated by wahtever demons lurked in the shadows of the sun, and her powers were nothing but a tool of evil destruction.
Personal Background
Therefore, Morana was seen a child born without the deities blessing and goodness, and therefore, was a cursed and evil creature. There was argument that she should be killed straight after birth, but the Lykke Clan worried that such an action would be wicked, and it would mean the sun deities would stop protecting them. Instead, they decided to allow the child to live, but in a cavern a good distance away from the rest of the village. She would be given food and water daily until she was old enough to go out and fend for herself. She was allowed to walk through the village streets, but for their own safety, people should be warned not to touch her, speak to her, or even look at her for too long, lest they wanted to be cursed themselves.
This led to Morana leading a life of being shunned and avoided by all the people of the clan, whispering cruel words, saying she was unholy and would bring bad luck to anyone who associated with her. It was made worse as she aged, and she was seen as notably different from everyone else. While the rest of the Lykke people were blessed with fair hair, light coloured eyes, athletic form and tanned skin, Morana was pale, dark, and morbid looking, leading her to be further ostracised. Having no one to contradict this information for her, Morana grew believing it was true what they Lykke Clan said about her. And so, she kept her distance from other people, never questioning anything said about her.
This lead Morana to be isolated, living in the forest on the island, utterly alone, and a safe distance away from everyone else.
Appearance
Overall, due to the way she lives Morana is rather scruffy and messy in appearance. Her waist length black hair is tangled and wavy, and often has to be pushed out of her face so she can see properly, revealing large and curious misty grey eyes. Her skin is very pale and white, her body average height (5'7 about) but very scrawny and bony, making her look rather malnourished. She wears rather worn and tattered tribal looking clothes, which consist of a full length patterned skirt and short top revealing her midriff, with supported straps attached to her upper arms. She is also seen to walk barefoot all the time.
It is also due to this appearance in comparison to the golden hair, tan skin and athletic form of the Lykke Clan, that she is widely seen as different and unblessed.
Talents, Powers and Skills
Powers
Sonic Vocals
Though barely aware of the power until she was summoned to Heavens team, Morana can emit sonic waves with her voice. Previously it has been when she is screaming due to panic attacks she takes when under strain or is very scared, but with training, she could use them through an emission of powerful notes in her voice. The waves she has shown so far are strong enough cause mild earthquakes, and land to crumble and crack.
Skills
Understanding Nature
Due to living on her own in the forest all her life, Morana has gained a delicate insight to nature. She knows better than most of what is dangerous and what is safe concerning plants and animals, knowing about which plants heal, which can be eaten, and which not to touch at all. In dwelling amongst the animals and birds, she also holds a good repertoire with them. She's not frightened by them, even the more vicious beasts, and often finds it easier to be around animals than people. In turn a lot of creatures do no harm to Morana since she understand the behaviour patterns, and are even friendly and playful with her. Even more dangerous creatures like wolves, mountain lions and bears do not mind her company as long as she shows herself to be no threat. There is a great understanding between Morana and these creatures, since they do not judge her, like the humans of the Lykke Clan.
Survival Skills
Despite looking rather scrawny and weak physically, Morana is actually quite agile. In living in the forests of her island home, she has become very good and running, swinging and climbing. She is also resourceful in ways to survive, such as finding food and water, starting fires and tracking animals. Notable Items
Having no family or real home, Morana has never owned any real possessions apart from the clothes on her back in her own world. In Chaos Unraveled, there are some things she can call her own.
