Basics

What world they came from: The Abarat
Christopher CarrionBirthday: Unknown
Age: Unknown, estimated between 30-60 years of age. His "kind" may possibly be able to live to be over 100.
Species: Unknown
Sexual Orientation: Unknown - most likely hetreosexual
Occupation: Lord of Midnight
Reputation: In his world, he is known as the Prince of Midnight, one of the last two, or possibly three, surviving members of the Carrion family. He rules his island with an iron fist and keeps a Machiavellian philosophy. He tortures his enemies into insanity, or sometimes even his own servants in order to keep the others in line. Though his cruelty is well known, his grandmother, Mater Motley, is even more feared in the Abaratian archipelago.

In Chaos Unraveled, he is the "creepy man with the fishtank on his head." To the Asgardians, he keeps the demeanor of a gentleman as much as possible and tries to show no signs of his temper. Depending on how certain Niflheimers treat him determines how he will respond to them. Clever, intelligent characters are left alone and watched closely, while characters who annoy him are at best treated with disdain, or worse, are seen as a threat. See 'Relationships' for more information.

Appearance

Though his body appears as frail as a human’s, his intimidating presence suggests an otherworldly power. Purplish-gray skin is stretched over his thin bones. His lips are torn by the stitches his own grandmother had sewn, and his face is often described as a death’s-head. He stands over six feet tall. He often wears silvery robes and chain mail gloves. His eyes have been described as milky-colored and dead-looking. Carrion’s most unique characteristic lies in the translucent glass collar, which encircles his neck and covers half of his face. It holds a blue fluid where his nightmares can manifest and swim. Straight from Carrion’s own twisted mind, they’re able to enter reality through the two pipes connected to the back of his skull.

Relationships

Jazz was the first resident of Nifilheim that Carrion encountered besides Lucifer. Realizing that he could not control or manipulate a robot that did not give off “organic” feelings, he decided that Jazz was good enough to be someone he could speak with and help on occasion. Una was his assigned roommate until she destroyed his things in the Tower, and so he has an absolute grudge against her. Light Yagami was someone Carrion tortured so that he could gain Lucifer’s prize. He recognizes Lucifer’s power to affect the residents of the realm and notes that pleasing the Devil’s Servant has more advantages than disadvantages.

Dante, Strix, and Albert Wesker are characters he sees as having the most intelligence and cunning, and therefore are the most useful to him. In Sal, he sees a penchant for cruelty as strong as his own, and so watches the asexual being closely.

Lina Inverse absolutely vexes him, but Carrion takes pleasure in the fact that mentioning his royal status will vex her. The strongest relationship he has (or thinks he has) is with Alice Elliot, who reminds him strongly of Princess Boa’s kinder qualities. They have only spoken over the communication system, but Carrion did deliver a gift to her once: a music box, but hidden within it is a device that allows him to spy on her.

Questions Raised in CU

Listed here are several questions that cannot be answered with canon. The roleplayer of Christopher Carrion attempted to answer these questions in-character while remaining true to Carrion's material in the books.

  • How does Carrion eat?
This was mentioned in Carrion's first thread with Jazz the Cypertronian. It appears to be physically impossible for Carrion to consume food through the mouth due to the strange apparatus around his head. Instead of normal food, he uses his nightmare eels to absorb the fears of others.

  • What is the Nightmare Man's race?
Dr. Cox requested this information in the thread where he asked all for the Niflheimers' basic medical information. Carrion simply answered, "Abaratian." Of course, the name of Carrion's specific "kind" is not mentioned in the book, though it is obvious that neither he nor his grandmother are quite human.

  • What is his sexuality?
After a particularly intense incident between Light and L, Jazz posted a journal entry that received a lot of responses from both Niflheimers and Asgardians alike. Carrion also responded, admitting a distaste for rape and carnal pleasures in general. Though he is obviously attracted to females like Alice Elliot and the Princess Boa, and does seem to long for some contact, not once are truly lustful desires officially mentioned. To keep things simple, Carrion will never become sexually active in CU.

  • Can anyone visit Prince's tower in Niflheim?
After Una and Sal destroyed Carrion's belongings in the Tower, Carrion allows for no visitors, except for very special circumstances (as when he had kidnapped Glitch for a short time). Not only are the doors and windows locked by normal means, they are also locked with incantations, and the entire Tower is protected by a barriage of defensive spells. These spells protect against breaking and entering, scrying, spying, etc.. Anyone attempting to break into the Tower will receive a nasty, magickal surprise.
